Terms of Service

Last updated: 30 July 2026

These terms govern your use of LegitAfrica, a platform for reading and writing reviews of businesses across Africa. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use LegitAfrica.

1. Who can use LegitAfrica

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to create an account. You must provide accurate information when you register, and you are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity on your account.

2. Reviews — what we ask of you

  • Every review must be based on a genuine, firsthand experience with the business you are reviewing. When you submit a review, you are explicitly confirming this — it is not an assumption we make on your behalf.
  • Reviews must not be fake, paid for, incentivised, defamatory, harassing, obscene, or used to advertise another product or service.
  • We screen every review, using both automated rules and an AI content check, for signs it may not meet these standards. A review that looks suspicious is held for a human moderator to review before it is published — you will still be able to see it in your own account while it's held.
  • If a business disputes your review, we may ask you to provide proof of purchase (such as a receipt or order confirmation) within a set number of days. If you don't, and the review is genuinely disputed, it may be removed.
  • You can edit your review within 30 minutes of posting it. After that, the original text is locked, but you can always add a dated update — for example, if the business later resolves your complaint. We never rewrite or delete your original words without telling you why.

3. Reviews — what businesses can and cannot do

  • A verified business owner can publicly reply to any review on their own business.
  • A business can dispute a review it believes is false, personal, or against these terms, and our moderation team will look into it — including asking the reviewer for proof of purchase, as above.
  • No business, at any time, for any reason, can pay to have a genuine review removed. Reviews are only ever removed for breaching these terms or through the dispute process described above.

4. Claiming a business

Anyone can add a business that isn't yet listed. To manage a business's profile and reply to its reviews, you must claim it and pass our identity verification, which may include providing a business registration number and supporting documents. We review claims and may reject one, or ask for more information, at our discretion. If two people claim the same business, we treat it as a dispute and review the evidence from both sides.

5. Content you post

You keep ownership of the reviews and other content you write. By posting it on LegitAfrica, you give us a licence to publish, display, and distribute it as part of the service — including, for example, showing it in search engine results — for as long as your content remains on the platform.

6. Reviews reflect individual opinions

Reviews on LegitAfrica are the opinions and experiences of the individuals who wrote them, not statements of fact verified by us, and not our own opinion of any business. We provide tools to detect fraud and resolve disputes, but we do not independently investigate every claim made in every review before it is published.

7. Account suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate an account that repeatedly or seriously breaches these terms — for example, posting fake reviews or attempting to manipulate ratings. You can delete your own account at any time from your account settings; see our Privacy Policy for exactly what that does.

8. The service is provided "as is"

LegitAfricais provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the service, including decisions made based on a review someone else posted.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use LegitAfrica after a change means you accept the updated terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.
